New iPhone 4G - Speculations and Predictions

We are still a good six months from the release of the iPhone 4G. While many of us are enjoying the features of the iPhone 3G while sipping eggnog from the comfort of our couches, some of us are already getting giddy with the kind of anticipation seen only in the eyes of a kid on Christmas morning. If you feel touch screens in your sleep and dream of the ability to store more data, you'll be very excited about this June. The iPhone 4G will pack quite a few extras to keep you tossing and turning at night until its release.

To start, many of us have been waiting for a higher quality iPhone camera, and it seems likely that Apple will deliver one this coming June. The 3 megapixel camera currently available on the iPhone 3G simply doesn't compare to the competition, which has cameras in the 12 megapixel range at the top end of the consumer spectrum. A camera at 5 megapixels with a flash seems to be a likely option for Apple, but one can never tell. Others speculate that Apple will stick to the 3 megapixel formula while offering other features currently only available on ordinary digital point-and-shoot cameras.

It almost goes without saying that Apple will double the storage capacity of the iPhone to 64GB. For one, flash memory will go down in price because manufacturers will begin a mass rollout of 32nm sticks. Rumors of better screen resolution are also in the works. We know that Apple's competitors have already achieved a screen resolution of 480x800 with the same space, but whether Apple will actually follow through remains unknown. One common issue with better screen resolutions is the reduction in overall battery life. Apple may opt for other features that keep the iPhone's battery usage to a minimum.

The ability to touch charge the iPhone is not only missing in the current 3G model, it's exactly the kind of cool feature that Apple is notorious for putting into its products. You may already be aware that the Palm Pre has this feature. You may not know that touch charging components are remarkably cheap. One source pins the price per component at $5, and other manufacturers are likely to jump on the scene as competition drives this price further downward.

These are just a few tastes of where iPhone technology is likely to go in the future. Speculation abounds as childish holiday curiosity takes over. Who knows what we will see in the final release. Maybe we'll get a whole host of interactive iPhone compatible devices to enhance the iPhone 4G's capabilities even further. The staff at Appiction would love to see our iPhones turn into a miniaturized Apple TV unit that we could take anywhere. But that's just us. What are your holiday wishes?
